FUNCTIONAL & RESTORATIVE MEDICINE

Treat the Cause... Cure the Disease

Lifelong health and vitality is every person’s right. Most of us are unaware of our slip from health until health and vitality are gone.

At Living Well Health and Wellness Center, we are committed to helping you reach optimal health by identifying your unique underlying causes of disease and treating those – not symptoms. We integrate specialized testing, diet and lifestyle modifications, in combination with nutritional supplementation, and medications to creating wellness and treat chronic, complex medical problems.

Let’s face it; most of today’s diseases that we suffer with are and lifestyle related. Diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are merely a cascade of symptoms indicating bodily imbalances.

Despite the fact that most lifestyle factors are modifiable – including diet, weight, inactivity and environmental exposures, our medical system is focused on treating disease using drugs and surgery rather than comprehensive patient-centered treatments focused on the individual.

In addition to prevention strategies, many complex, chronic diseases are very responsive to dietary and various lifestyle interventions; often with better outcomes than conventional drug therapy. But this is not the usual intervention American’s get from their medical team.

We’re different.

Our doctors focus on restoring optimal function to the body alleviating symptoms of imbalance such as weight loss resistance, high cholesterol or diabetes to name a few. This new paradigm of medicine is called Functional Medicine. Functional Medicine emphasizes a process of integrating multiple areas of body-systems as the key to health. Functional Medicine uses your story as an essential tool for diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and evidence of clinical imbalances into a comprehensive mind-body approach to improve your physiological function.

Functional Medicine gives the framework to address chronic illness and multiple contributing symptoms that traditionally have been difficult diagnose and treat because the fundamental, underlying clinical imbalances are not a single malfunction but rather a cascade of system imbalances.

The Functional Medicine Framework

These are fundamental underlying biological principles by which your body operates to create optimal health. This 21st-century medicine is finally available to you now.

This new approach is based on the leading edge science of Systems biology and Functional Medicine.

The process is relatively simple: First, identify which of your key underlying systems isn't working correctly; second, remove the causes of imbalance in each one of those systems; and then third, nourish each of these systems with what it needs to function optimally. Then, your body's natural intelligence takes over and automatically fixes your remaining problems.

Key Body Systems to Address

  1. Hormonal Balance
  2. Gut & Digestive Health
  3. Environmental Factors
  4. Detoxification
  5. Inflammation
  6. Energy
  7. Mind Body Connection

Factors that influence your health

One major environmental factor that modifies gene expression is the individual’s nutritional status. Both macronutrients and micronutrients can influence the expression of genes and ultimately influence the controlling metabolic functions of the body.

Another major factor in genetic expression is your environment – your exposure to toxins in the environment, foods, water, air and your own metabolic waste. Overburdened bodies fighting toxicity can turn on genes usually dormant in healthy individuals.

Stress and a unhealthy lifestyle is the other major factor that does affect your genetic expression. We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg with the long-term effects of rampant stress and a lifestyle that has become more and more hectic with little down time to recharge.

Functional medicine incorporates a patient-centered and science-based approach to improving your health through the management and prevention of complex, chronic diseases and imbalances. Bringing optimal function back to the body can give you your youth and vitality back.

Consultations

Your initial visit will include an 60-minute medical consultation with your physician and approximately 50-minute consultation with the nurse. Nutritional therapy and laboratory/diagnostic testing are integral components of your treatment plan. Test results are used to design your personal health care program as well as uncover the root causes of your medical condition. Nutritional supplements are often recommended and we will help you select and find the highest quality products.

Initial Visits

When coming from out of town, you may need to stay overnight after your consultation to have your blood drawn the next morning. Many of the tests require an 8-hour fast. You can drink water during this fast. Costs of all testing will be reviewed with you by our staff after your medical consultation before any labs are drawn. You will receive all final lab results and be guided through their interpretation at your follow up visits.

Consultation Fees

Initial 60-minute MD consultation (allow 2 hours): $500
30-Minute MD Office Visit or Phone Consultation: $275
