When we created our clinic in 2005, our dream was to offer a full complement of functional medicine services under one roof. We are so proud to have accomplished this goal and have such great relationships with our patients.
After all, one of the key factors to the functional approach is the relationship between doctor and patient. It’s about connecting with patients, getting to know them, and supporting them throughout their lifetime. But functional medicine is also about prevention and treatment.
To treat the whole person, we need to get to the root cause. And to get to the root cause, we need to run a variety of tests, which requires access to various diagnostic facilities and resources.
Tests Are Crucial
Tests are crucial to this approach because some health problems are easy to understand while others are an endless guessing game. You may have experienced the latter— going from doctor to doctor, trying a variety of medications and treatments, and being frustrated because no one can find the real cause or cure your symptoms.
Effectively Treats Symptoms and Diseases
Functional medicine has grown in popularity over the last decade because it effectively treats symptoms and diseases that traditional doctors cannot diagnose correctly. Lab tests are extremely effective in pinpointing specific problems.
Since the body is an interconnected system, small imbalances or dysfunctions build up and have a domino effect in the body. The surface symptoms interact with one another and look like a symptom that appears to be completely different. The specific information gives us the puzzle pieces we need to put together the big picture of your body’s ecosystem.
Diagnostic Facilities
That is why we are so proud of the diagnostic facilities and resources that we have put together. To identify the issues our patients are facing, we use cutting-edge technology and various diagnostic tests and programs to pinpoint your area of concern as we begin to customize your treatments.
We partner with 35 labs across the U.S. that have different specialties. We have an in-house bone density scanner, a bioimpedance analysis, and more exciting services and diagnostic tools added each month! Here’s a brief overview of our diagnostic facility and resources.
Lab Tests
Some lab tests can diagnose specific diseases. However, others don’t. They help us gain a clearer understanding of the entire ecosystem that is in your body. Knowing more about the following can paint a picture of what is going on in your body.
- Reactions to stress
- Hormone levels
- Allergens
- Gut healthÂ
Because of the diversity of the lab tests we run, we partner with 35 labs across the United States. We have hand-picked each of these labs for the quality, scope of experience, and efficiency. Here is an idea of the types of tests we may run to get a clearer picture of what is going on in your body.
Each of these tests can help your team create a treatment and wellness plan to heal the root of what ails you rather than just focusing on the symptoms.
In-House Bone Density Scanner
What is a bone density scan? A bone density scan(aka DEXA scan) is a low-dose x-ray test that measures calcium and other minerals in your bones. The measurement helps us get a measurement of the strength and thickness of your bones. You may have heard this called bone density or mass. Since most people’s bones become thinner as they get older, this test is essential to
- Predict risk of future fractures diagnose osteopenia (low bone mass)
- Diagnose osteoporosis
- See if treatment for osteoporosis is working
If you are a woman who is 65 or older or someone who has a higher-than-normal chance of fracture for your age, a bone density test can prevent future fractures.
Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)
Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis or Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) allows us to assess your body composition. It measures body fat in relation to lean body mass and is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment.
Studies have shown that body composition is directly related to health. A normal balance is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat can significantly increase your risks for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more.
BIA helps us catch an improper balance in our body composition early on, which gives us more options for intervention and prevention. BIA also measures fluid and body mass, which helps us assess your current state of health.
If your goal is to gain muscle or lose weight, monitoring body composition changes (fat weight vs. lean fat-free weight) rather than doing a weekly weigh-in can give you a sense of making real progress towards your goals!
On-Site Allergy Testing and Treatment
If allergies are making your life miserable, we’ve got you covered with allergy testing and immunotherapy services. Allergy skin testing is simple and painless and can identify the cause of your allergies which is the first step toward treatment.
Allergy testing can also determine that what you thought was allergies might have been something else, which is another step toward putting together the complete picture of your health. We can also work with you to root out any food allergies that may be causing you gastro-intestinal, skin, mental, or upper respiratory problems.
